Saturday night, my dad took all of his grandkids to see a live theatre show. The show was put on by a local theatre group, and it was specifically intended to be a show for children.
The name of the show is, Frosty! A Very Merry Musical! It is set in New York City on Christmas Eve, so it does have a holiday theme, although it is not religious.
My kids and their cousins absolutely loved it! It is so heartwarming to see them get so excited about this art form, especially in a world saturated with media aimed towards kids.
Kid friendly arts
Since this was a show for kids, no one needed to stress out about kids who couldn’t sit perfectly still or be perfectly quiet. In fact, audience participation was often encouraged. Oh, and it didn’t hurt that the show was only an hour and fifteen minutes long; the perfect length for little attention spans.
After the show all of the actors came out into the lobby so that the children could meet them take photos. They all did such a fantastic job, I wanted to meet them all! The kids, of course, made a bee-line for Frosty.
It takes a village
It is not always easy for us moms, especially ones who have several little ones or are on a budget, to go to these types of things.
However, as a former performing artist myself, I try to take every opportunity that I can to support local art. Do some research and see if there are any local live theatre or dance performances near you.
I have to give credit for this one where it is due. Thanks, Dad!
